Our First Gig!!

Our FIRST gig was by special invitation by Jurong Regional Library in April 2005 where the band not only entertained but spoke on the elements of Rock Music to teenagers at the library.

"A Rocking Good Time!

JRL was rocking its way to attract more music-lovers to its 4th floor v.a.t. when local band EPISODIC turned it into a cool joint on Sunday 03/04/05

The idea was rooted by Jurong Regional Library (JRL) in conjuction with its creativity programme. The programme, Expressions, is targeted mainly at teens and the band took the opportunity of educating these hormone-raged individuals on the subject of fusion rock. The band had turned the verging.all.teens (v.a.t) floor, an otherwise quiet 4th floor of the library into a roaring ground filled with an enormous crowd of music-lovers and rockers-wannabe.

The band started its gig with a powerful medley of Deep Purple’s Smoke On The Water and Joan Jett’s I Hate Myself for Loving You, which received uproars and cheers from the rock-maddened crowd.

The band called themselves EPISODIC. “Every episode stands on its own..” explains the female vocalist of the group, Izryn Abu Samah (affectionately known as “Adik” – meaning little sister), when asked about the meaning behind the band name. And she calmly explains the history behind the first two songs. The crowd nodded and responded in acknowledgement as she proceeds to explain roots and evolution of rock over the years.

The male vocalist of the group, Syed Raizal Hamid Al-Edrus, also the band’s keyboardist, shone centrestage as he took the audience by surprise with his detailed explanation on technology and sound of rock, followed by a sweet rendition of Mr Big’s Wild World and Santana’s Maria Maria.

The different genres of rock such as Pop Rock, Classic Rock, Funk Rock, Latin Rock, Ballad Rock, Raggae Rock and Modern Rock were clearly explained, each one being demonstrated with songs such as 4Non Blondes' What’s Up, Santana’s Smooth, Maroon 5’s This Love and Evanessence’s Bring Me to Life. The crowd was hopping about and cheering for an encore. It was a day impossible to forget!

Mass publicity were done to make known to public about the gig. Many came in groups of friends and families, young & old. Even the band itself had their own poster made up and incorporated onto the back of their t-shirt. The gig was also made known through word of mouth from friends and families, placed in blogs on the internet and news of their gig were distributed through emails in workplaces, schools and forum chats.

All in all, the gig was a huge success. Everyone enjoyed themselves. The band did an exceptional exposure. The teens were informed and educated well. Mission Accomplished -written by Dewihana"
